Welcome to the Website of the Tompkins County Democratic Committee.

2006 was a banner electoral year for Democrats in Tompkins County.  We contributed to the Democratic takeover of Congress by helping to elect Congressman Michael Arcuri.  We sent our senior Congressman Maurice Hinchey back to Congress with a resounding majority.  We gave our new governor, Eliot Spitzer, an impressive 70.1% of the vote, and gave Senator Hillary Clinton and Assemblywoman Barbara Lifton about 66% each.  We re-elected Sheriff Meskill in a three-way race with 51%.  We were even victorious in the two local races that took place, helping to elect David Makar to the Dryden Town Board and Debbi Payne as Town Justice in Newfield.  A real milestone was achieved in Democratic turnout:  We out-performed the Republicans for the first time in the vast majority of our election districts.

Many volunteers including various Union members augmented the efforts of the County Committee by carrying petitions, getting out mailings, telephoning, bundling literature, staffing headquarters and writing letters.  We thank them all.  Those not too exciting tasks are part of the reason for our wonderful results.

In 2007 we will work on local races ranging from that of Mayor of the City of Ithaca, to the City Judge, half of Common Council, and many Town Supervisors and Board Members. We will also be working on diversity issues, new member orientation, and campaign training.

Are you interested in joining us? We are seeking new members in many districts, and would also like to increase our diversity. If you are interested in participating or have any questions after you peruse this website, please do not hesitate to call me at 266-7579 or e-mail me at iws2@cornell.edu.

2007 is one more step in the march toward 2008 when we retake the White House.  Become part of the process!
